MEMORY AND FORGETFULNESS IN THE CONFUSION BETWEEN THE PUBLIC AND THE PRIVATE: THE HENRIQUE CARLOS DE MORAIS’ CASE (PELOTAS/RS)

The article seeks to develop a reflection on the formation of archives resulting from operations generated in traffic between public and private. The study tracks the story of Henrique Carlos de Morais, a collector who lived five decades devoted to the Museu da Biblioteca Pblica Pelotense (Museum of the Public Library in Pelotas city - BPP) and followed the development of policies for the preservation of the heritage from the earliest days. The study notes that the whole documentary Morais was throughout his life, largely by donations made to him and which were incorporated into the collection of the Museum of the BPP. After his death, he mounted the archives has been modified through the disposal of documents deemed personal and his name has been forgotten. Search is clarify the reasons that forgetfulness by the analysis of continuous and progressive confusion between public and private that characterized the action of Morais in Museum.
