In many cases these patients require renal replacement therapy.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Objective</strong>: to describe the most frequent complications in patients with terminal chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis in the teaching hospital "Mártires del 9 de Abril" in Sagua, Villa Clara, in the period between January 2016 and April 2017.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Methods</strong>: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population included the 62 patients with this diagnosis who were admitted in the nephrology service of the hospital during the period previously declared. The information was collected through the review of patients' individual medical records.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Results</strong>: there was predominance in the male sex (64 %), being the group of 61 to 70 years the most affected (20,9 %). Hypertension was the most frequent cause of terminal chronic kidney disease (26 %), followed by diabetic nephropathy (23 %). The most frequent complication during hemodialysis was hypotension (24 %), when relating complications with associated diseases there was a predominance of cardiac arrhythmias (29 %), anemia (27 %), hyperglycemia (26 %).<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Conclusions</strong>: the most frequent complications were described in patients with terminal chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis included in the investigation.
