Description
Summary:In the middle Niger River, floods are becoming more frequent and dramatic. In recent years, major cities along the Niger River have seen historic floods, with significant material and human damage. Among the factors involved, include land-use changes that led to the change of surface conditions and increased runoff. To these is added the changing rainfall patterns. This paper provides an analysis of rainfall in the region over the period 1950-2013. The rainfall index calculated through the implementation RClimDex helped to highlight the changing characteristics and rainfall patterns that are causing increased flooding in these localities.
