Description
Summary:In this paper we review the basics of PET and discuss the fundamental principle of the physics of PET, the detection of photons and the creation of sinograms. The principles of PET image formation as described with the presentation of the basic back-projection technique and the now well established statistical iterative image reconstruction technique. We also discuss the implementation of the positron range correction and the inclusion of the time-of-flight information for the purpose of improve image contrast and signal to noise.
