O mito do declíneo do Welfare State (The myth of the decline of the Welfare State)

<p align="justify" ><b>Resumo:</b> Os impactos do atual processo de globalização nas políticas sociais e no futuro do Estado de Bem-Estar Social são motivos de grande controvérsia no meio acadêmico, especialmente no Brasil. Um grupo de autores afi rma que teria havido uma “crise” e que, consequentemente, o projeto do Welfare State teria chegado ao “esfacelamento”. (DEMO, 2002). Por outro lado, há autores que defendem posição contrária, argumentando que o Estado de Bem-Estar teria se mantido, apesar de tudo, surpreendentemente bem, se revelando uma instituição “sólida” (THERBORN, 1995) em todas as sociedades avançadas e modernas. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste artigo é discutir o conceito do Estado de Bem-Estar Social e das políticas sociais e tecer indagações em que medida tal modelo ainda é existente.<br><br><b>Abstract:</b> The impacts of the process of globalization on the social politics and on the future of the Welfare State is a matter of great controversy in the academic environment, especially in Brazil. A group of authors affirm that a “crisis” took place, which consequently “ruined” the project of the Welfare State. (DEMO, 2002). On the other hand, some authors defend an opposite position, arguing that against all expectations the Welfare State resisted surprisingly well, revealing itself a “solid” institution (THERBORN, 1995) in all of the advanced and modern societies. Therefore, the aim of this article is to discuss the concept of the Welfare State and of social politics and to investigate in what extent this model still exists.</p>
