Description
Summary:Buenos Aires has an elusive linkage with the shores and water courses that run across it. In fact, in spite of limiting with a very extensive coastal front and of being cut through by many rivers, streams and ditches, the city never thoroughly took care of its waters and coasts. Within this framework, this work inquires about the urbanization process of its water front, pointing out that none of the projects designed for this part of the city, until the end of the XXI century, has imposed its urban design. On the contrary, these designs were often contradictory and were only carried out in parts or portions of the coastal extension. In spite of this, all seem to have had the same, although limited purpose: to tame the river and its waters under a political hegemonic and economically profitable project. This purpose will only be achieved –not without tensions- at the beginning of the XXI century under the protection of the new Puerto Madero district and the intention of extending –with adaptations- its benefits and logics to the vast zigzagging silhouette of the shore.
