Summary:Spanish History, during Early Modern and Modern ages, is marked with a great number of political exiles. From 1705, the so called austracistas, that is the supporters of the Habsburg cause during the Spanish War of Succession, were compelled to emigrate: it was one of the most important exiles in Spanish History, since almost 30.000 refugees left Spain. Though they had to face some troubles, the austracistas succeeded to integrate themselves within the Habsburg Monarchy thanks to the decisive economic help received from the Italian territories Charles VI gained. However the emergence of a common austracista identity dipended on some cultural, political and social strategies they carried out. As every single exile, also Spanish austracista diaspora made rich the adopted country.
