El Retinoblastoma: paradigma del cáncer hereditario

El retinoblastoma es considerado el paradigma del tumor hereditario. En este trabajo se plantean algunas características de este tumor que determinan el interés actual de su estudio. Se enfatiza en que los beneficios logrados con los nuevos esquemas terapéuticos deben acompañarse de acciones que garanticen la reducción de la incidencia de casos hereditarios y por lo tanto de la mortalidad y morbilidad relacionadas, por razones de costo-beneficio y para elevar la calidad de vida de pacientes y familiares.<br>The retinoblastoma is considered as the paradigm of the hereditary tumor. Some of the characteristics of this tumor that determine the current interest in its study are explained in this paper. Emphasis is made on the fact the benefits attained with the new therapeutic schemes should be accompanied with actions that guarantee the reduction of the incidence of hereditary cases and, therefore, of the related mortality and morbidity for cost-benefit reasons and to increase the quality of life of patients and relatives.
