Description
Summary:In the life system, metal ions are the important elements for tissue growth and development. The content of the metal ions is closely related to the balance of the internal environment. If the <i>in vivo</i> concentrations of metal ions are out of balance,it will be easy to cause diseases. Therefore,it is very important to assess and understand the concentration changes of <i>in vivo</i> metal ions for the diagnosis of diseases.Due to its deep tissue penetration, high spatial resolution,no damage,no invasion, and ability to track three-dimensional dynamic imaging,MRI is widely used for the detection of the in vivo metal ions.Normally,MRI contrasts are required to improve the accuracy of metal ion detection by reason of the low sensitivity of MRI.At present, the contrast agents used in the clinical detection of <i>in vivo</i> ions are mainly Gd3+ chelates. Thus,we will introduce the recent advances of Gd3+ contrast agents for <i>in vivo</i> detection of metal ions in this review.
