Complications are usually mild. Objective: to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness and economic efficiency of the use of hemorrhoid band ligation with elastic bands in the treatment of hemorrhoids and mucosal prolapses and the manufacture of elastic bands. Methods: a clinical and endoscopic study was performed on all patients of both genders who attended the gastroenterology consultation with the diagnosis of hemorrhoid syndrome based on the method of ligation of hemorrhoids by elastic bands (N=40). The cost of the ligation method was added to the study in order to compare it with the surgical technique and to demonstrate the saving of resources with its application. Results: ligation of hemorrhoids with elastic bands is a safe and effective method. This technique offers great social and economic advantages for the patient and the institution. Conclusions: hemorrhoid ligation is a simple, safe, comfortable and effective method, the possibility of performing this technique on an outpatient basis offered great social, economic advantages for both the patient and the hospital, the use of this technique in mucosal prolapses, the manufacture of bands results in great economic savings, the generalization of this method to all hospitals in the country, would involve the substitution of imported goods and the intake of medications.http://www.revcmpinar.sld.cu/index.php/publicaciones/article/view/3920hemorroides /fisiopatologíacomplicacionestratamientoadulto.
