Description
Summary:The organization of a major sporting event is rightly seen as a possible way of development, but we have to see what kind of development and how? Indeed, the links between sport, tourism and development have been the subject of numerous studies in management sciences, but there are a number of aspects that need to be taken into account in order to better theorize the social and cultural level. Based on the results of several case studies over the period 1990-2014, this article shows the difficulties to define and classify the different types of sporting events and formalizes three axes of a theoretical device. This is to conceptualize the effect level of an event, the structural opposition between imported events and manufactured events, and finally the choice of a more or less participatory strategy.
