| Summary: | In the scientific field, there are few empirical studies and theoretical contributions of Psychology about thepenitentiary field, when compared to Psychology as a whole. Concerning that, those interested in producingknowledge about this field need to act as real archeologists, to obtain theoretical contributions, as well as data whichmake possible methodological comparisons and supports in their researches. The lack of scientific production isalso reflected in the Psychology field, as a profession, once lacking knowledge which beacons psychologicalknowing in this context. Thus, the present article brings the main criminological conceptions to aid in theconstruction and the development of scientific knowledge in this field.
