The topic of this paper is the relationship between words and images as seen from the most frequent cases, i.e. when they are combined in mixed verbal-iconic statements. Their interactions are analyzed from a semantic standpoint, in order to understand how each of the two elements contributes to the production of meaning. They are examined from the reduced perspective of their rhetoric relationship. The reason for this approach is two-folded: first giving account of the way words and images interact in some verbal-iconic statements, and second being careful to show that in these interactions words don’t necessarily have the most important part that is still too often attributed to them.
