| Summary: | The aim of this contribution is to briefly explore the history of the gilded bas-relief found in Quebec City, Canada, on which is carved a dog eating a bone and engraved an enigmatic motto. Then, based on William Kirby's novel, entitled The Golden Dog, will be presented the origins of the legend born around this bas-relief. Finally, the article proposes to see how this legend was taken up in a more contemporary novel by Daniel Mativat entitled Une Dette de sang ou La vengeance de Pierre Philibert, milicien de la Nouvelle-France. How does Daniel Mativat exploit the legend of the "golden dog" in his text ? Has he modified some aspects of the legend or has it been reworked as is ?
