Description
Summary:The objective of this article is to provide an analysis of the current trends in medieval studies in Spain in the last two decades. The chronological period is strictly limited to the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century (1990-2008). The introduction discusses the principal stages of the development of Spanish medievalism/ medieval studies in the 20th century, specially the legacy of the 1980s. It then engages in an in-depth analysis of the evolution of Spanish medieval studies in the last two decades by presenting the major books that have been published in the last fifteen years, and by arranging them according to what, in my opinion, have been the major trends in terms of the themes, methodologies, and epistemologies in Spanish medieval studies: these are the more traditional trends, social history, and the new political and cultural history.
