| Summary: | In Mexico, the mobility of students is a factor that influences the economy and has an impact on the traffic on roads near universities. Hence, it is important to understand the factors mitigate the aforementioned impact. This study aims to analyze the commute characteristics of the students of Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), as a case study. This study was conducted by following a strategy that involved processing the obtained data using well-established analytical methodologies, including online student surveys; the use of geographic information systems, descriptive statistics, and choice models; and analysis of socioeconomics, demographics, and travel distances. The results reveal that the travel distances and economic status determine the choice of the mode of transport and correlate well with corresponding data from other emerging economies. Additionally, we identified the specific needs concerning the cost of public transport and strategies to attract car users to public transport.
