Description
Summary:Mircea Eliade is presumed to be one of the most important representatives of religious studies in the 20th century even though his oeuvre has been criticized fiercely. Especially the religious, metaphysical and philosophical elements of his philosophy of religion came under suspicion of being unscientific. This article expounds the problems of classifying Eliade as a representative of religious studies and counterposes a classification of Eliade as a representative of philosophy of religion. This new classification invalidates all critics attempting to portray Eliade as a representative of religious studies and criticize him as such afterwards. Thus, this article suggests a new paradigm on the work of Eliade from a systematic point of view involving the history of philosophical ideas.
