Summary:The protection of industrial property rights in a country is an important factor in encouraging the invention activities, application of new technologies to industry, increasing foreign investment and supporting national and international trade. The present industrial property system of Turkey, which is one of the first countries in the world that started the protection of industrial property rights, includes protection of patents and trademarks only. This paper discusses the importance of access to technological and commercial information, describes the basic concepts of industrial property rights, and introduces the Turkish Patent Institute, its structure and functions along with information and documentation services it offers.
