Summary:In Brazil, the consolidation of the Health System has increased the capacity of health management by municipalities, allowing the autonomy in the organization of dental services. This study aimed to evaluate the work process of Dentists at Family Health Strategy in Jequié-BA. The sample was composed of 8 dentists working at the Family Health Strategy. Professionals answered a semi-structured questionnaire, beingtheir speeches recorded and later transcribed, read and analyzed by the thematic content analysis technique. Based on the analysis of the interviews were identified the following categories: Unawareness of reality; Lack of action planning; Care X welcome; Prevention and Health Education. Was verified unawareness of the local reality of team performance area, lack of actions planning, dentists focused on clinical area and preventive and educational activities carried out in the traditional way (lectures and fluoride application). It was found that it is necessary to reassess the working process of the dentists from the municipality, considering that the planning of oral health practices from the community diagnosis is not yet a common practice.
