Methods: Cross-sectional study by interviewing women enrolled in a Family Health Strategy (FHS), Ananindeua-Pará. Results: Most women were between 20-39 years of age (72.6%), had low income and low education. Reported the exam annually (64.0%) and every two years (17.0%), while 14.0% of them never realized. Of the participants who never performed the examination, the age group of 20-29 was the most prevalent (73.3%) (p<0.05). It was found that the women had heard about the disease (97.1%) and considered cancer as a wound that can lead to death (81.4%). There was a significant relationship between knowledge about cancer of the cervix (heard, concept, as it is known, timing, late detection), first sexual intercourse, condom use, contraceptive use and sexually transmitted disease with the examination (p<0.05). Shame was reported as greater difficulty (25.5%), followed by neglect (22.5%) and lack of time (12.5%). Women who were examined rated as "Good" program PCC FHS. Conclusion: Women showed good adhesion to take PCC, said the main difficulty shame and demonstrated the concept on the subject.http://gestaoesaude.unb.br/index.php/gestaoesaude/article/view/329/pdf_1Women's Health; Papanicolaou; Uterine Cervical NeoplasmCervical Cancer
