Description
Summary:The idea the king Alfonso X has about Jupiter is so particular that it led me to study here the figure of his wife Juno. For this purpose, I used the same grid that allowed me to define the identification between the monarch and the mythological god in a previous work. In the General estoria, the opposition between god and goddess is flagrant. If Jupiter is covered with all the most positive characteristics of a king, the queen Juno is guided by inconvenient feelings: pride, violence and cruelty. She is characterised by a conflictual, intransigent behaviour. This motivates the study of her figure in order to understand the idea Alfonsine historians had of Juno, in contrast with or as a complement to Jupiter. But the study also allows to understand Alfonso X’s theories on female power.
