Description
Summary:
This study was conducted at CIAT, in both the research station and fanners' plots, in the Darién area, of the Cauca Valley Department, between 1989 and 1991. The main objectives were to determine the efficiency of evaluation for segregant generations of the bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) with farmers , in contrast to the evaluation that took place in the Research Station and to establish the selection criteria used by farmers in their evaluation of lines. The variation analysis for bean yield in generations F2 and F6 presented a wide interaction between genotype x environment. In general, there was a gain in yield of populations over the parentals, in the diferentes places where selection took place. The Calima variety (check) was significantly inferior in yielding with respect to the other genotypes. Data for 18 populations in F2 in 18 lines in F6, showed a low correlation between the CIAT Experimental Station and the research station and farms of Darien. The analysis for all the localities using both methods, the rnasal improvement and pedigree, was not significant. The selection criteria used by the farmers for the selection of lines were color (98%), measure of grain (96 %), yield (95 %).
