Description
Summary:Through the narrative of three major crises experienced by local communities in the North-East of Thailand, each of which exemplifying a different configuration of risks (breakdown of the community, non-compliance with cosmological rules, intrusion of evil spirits), the author examines the responses that have been made to these dramatic events. Two of the crises studied also illustrate the tensions between the Thai state and the peasantry in terms of development and management of social problems.
