Description
Summary:Super alloys are alloys which has the resistance of high temperatures. In addition to that, super alloys are widely used in aerospace, aviation industries, also in gas turbines because of their high creep strength and high corrosion resistance. In this study, cutting forces obtained as a result of turning of the Hastelloy X super alloy were evaluated. The effects of different cutting parameters and the cryogenic treatment applied to different cutting tools (PVD, CVD coated) on cutting forces were investigated. During the experiments, four different cutting speeds (60, 75, 90 and 120 m/min) and three different feed rates (0.10 - 0.15 - 0.20 mm/rev) were used. As a result of the experiments, it is observed that increasing cutting speeds and feed rates increase cutting forces. Moreover, the cutting forces obtained with CVD coated cutting tools were less than PVD coated cutting tools. The best tool life result was obtained with cryogenic treated CVD coated cutting tools.
