| Summary: | After reviewing the broad outline of the Chilean economic evolution during the military dictatorship (1973-1990) and the following four democratic governments (1990-2010), this article analyzes the contagion of the 2008-2009 crisis, its social and economic effects, the policy responses to it and their consequences. It emphasizes critically the financialization of Chilean economy, abandoning the road that had led to sustained growth and reduced inequality in the 1990s. |
