Description
Summary:The relationship between society and state has been studied from the logic of legal and political power from which the leaders ruling and the criminal control are essential to explain citizen public safety. But, if this phenomenon is observed from the logic of social influence from which risk and insecurity perceptions are developed by the citizens –which explain the construction of unfavorable emotions and opinions to the government action-, then the concept of sociopolitical identity allows to clarify the process by which corruption, negligence, nepotism or opacity by the state are qualified as the main problems according to the citizens. Precisely, the purpose of this article is to document the social influence based on the concept of socio-political identity. For doing so, a nonrandom selection of information sources was carried out taking into account three important scientific data bases in Latin America. The power approach with respect to the influence viewpoint suggests there are differences. Anyway, these are complementary because the state’s ruling explains security while its failure explains insecurity. However, the conversion process is explained from the perspective of social influence.
