Summary: | Throughout the year of 2008, the city of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, located in the State of Rio de Janeiro, was the scene of a serious political-institutional crisis in the Executive, having had eight mayors in one electoral term – a fact that had nationwide repercussion. Based on the classic theoretical debate about democratization, political participation, and local government, I began fieldwork in 2009, aiming at identifying which factors contributed to this unprecedented political crisis in the history of the city. This paper presents some results of my research. |
