The sociological definition and analysis of management is the authors concern. They recall how most social activities have now become management issues or at least coloured by them. Establishing this fact from a sociological angle, independently of concrete concerns, is a legitimate contribution to knowledge. Hence three programmatic research axes are proposed taking into account the actors, their goals, principles as well as ways and means. What is going forward in the managerialization of society can thus be exposed and alternatives eventually envisaged.
