Summary:The present article intends to analyzes Raul Veiga Bridge building history, the main historical heritage of the municipality of Santo Antônio de Pádua. The building is generally connected to Rio de Janeiro’s state politics in the 1910s-20s decades and particularly with the commemorations of the Centenary of Brazilian Independence. Thus, understanding the significance of this bridge to the population of Santo Antônio de Pádua  is just possible if its building is related to the independence anniversary, meaningful event for the country, but particularly troubled in Rio de Janeiro’s political context.
