Thematic maps have always been very important aid in different phases of spatial planning; as a presentation of the current landscape, as a tool in various spatial analyzes and, finally, as a visualisation of the planned situation. The development of visualization techniques,supported by availability of spatial data in three dimensions, enables more and more effective threedimensional presentations, also called 3D maps, that enable easier and more intuitive recognition of thevisualised image to the target users. The availability of 3D spatial data, possibilities of 3D visualizations and some examples of 3D thematic maps for spatial planning are presented in the article.
