The IT services sector has helped establish India as a major player in the provision of world-class technology solutions and business services. However, global economic shifts, intensifying competition, and changing industry dynamics have posed challenges for companies in this sector. This article summarises the current state of the software and services industry and the challenges faced by its major players, especially those headquartered in India but with a substantial global presence. It then presents an interview with S. D. Shibulal, Co-founder, CEO & Managing Director of Infosys, one of the most successful and widely celebrated Indian companies. Mr. Shibulal elaborates on the company's ability to sustain its founding values and strategic direction during a period of change and adaptation. The article and the interview provide several important lessons for business leaders everywhere in transforming their organisations while retaining their core values.
