Description
Summary:The article is devoted to the analysis of the language situation in Soviet Belarus in the period from the October Revolution to the Second World War. The languages declared official in the Constitution of the Belarusian Socialist Soviet Republic of 1927 (Belarusian, Russian, Polish, Jewish) are studied in terms of service of written communication. The article deals with the issues related to spelling reforms, school education, and publication of newspapers and books. It is concluded that the development of national languages and graphic systems announced after the revolution is replaced by the Russification of all manifestations of public life in the late 1930s.
