This paper examines the sustainability of Islamic boarding school system. The method used descriptive-analytic with sociology approach. This study found that the resilience of pesantren education system in the perspective of the theory of structural functionalism has the durability and strong continuities due to its four functions, namely; adaptability with with the community, goal attainment form students to have a certain personality, integration of institutional system and curriculum, and maintenance of cultural patterns value systems. In addition, the schools have kiai leadership in the process of boarding school education. Therefore, a large boarding school that has the durability and continuities are schools that perform four functions of structural systems.
