| Summary: | Gabriel Chappuys, untiring translator, operated in France between
Lyon and Paris, from 1575 to 1590. On his arrival in Paris, in 1583, he
published, in quick succession, three volumes containing translation
/adaptation of Giraldi Cinzio’s work, with the publisher Abel L’Angelier.
The essay analyses the paratexts to the translation of Gli Ecatommiti. They
contain interesting reflections on the task of the translator, on the role of
publishers, on the influence of the court and the king in the cultural life
of the time marked by a rapid evolution, which requires fast work from
the translator and significant interventions from the publishers not to
disappoint the demands of a new taste.

Gabriel Chappuys, infaticabile traduttore, opera in Francia, tra Lione
e Parigi, dal 1575 al 1590. Al suo arrivo a Parigi, nel 1583, pubblica in
rapida successione, presso l’editore Abel L’Angelier, tre volumi
contenenti la traduzione / adattamento dell’opera di Giraldi Cinzio. Il
saggio analizza i paratesti della traduzione de Gli Ecatommiti dai quali
emergono interessanti riflessioni sul compito del traduttore, sul ruolo
degli editori, sull’influenza della corte e del re nella vita culturale del
tempo, segnata da una rapida evoluzione che impone ritmi di lavoro
serrati ai traduttori e interventi significativi da parte degli editori per non
deludere le richieste di un gusto nuovo.
