| Summary: | The study has two purposes. The first is to find out the importance of tanah pelaba pura(communal land dedicated to a temple) to the the pengemong pura (community members who actas caretakers to the temple). The second is to study how views of pengemong pura towards tanahpelaba pura have shifted which consequently influence the use of communal land. The studyimplements naturalistic research approaches. Tabulation and verification of the data collectedthroughout the study have been presented in maps, matrices and charts. Changes in views on anduses of tanah pelaba pura have been divided into five different time frames: Period I before 1980- this was when the new land administration was introduced by the Indonesian State; Period II of1990 - this was the beginning of the implementation of land consolidation policy; Period III of1995 when tanah pelaba pura was used for communal purposes to build public facilities; PeriodIV of 2003-2005, when there were huge political and economic pressures placed upon the tanahpelaba pura; and Period V of 2010-2012 when the economic value of this communal landdetermines its use rather than socio-cultural concerns. |
