Summary:Pharmacogenetics is a discipline that investigates how genetic variation relates to the drug efficacy and safety. The goal of pharmacogenetics is a personalized treatment, where according to genotype we would be able to prescribe the most effective drug at the most appropriate dose for an individual patient. The aim of this review is to summarize pharmacogenetics as a specialization with its own background, research, methods, including barriers and promises for the future.
