Description
Summary:
The dovecotes, fundamental elements in the oldest networks of long distance communication are illustrated in their essential characteristics (fixed, mobile or disassembled) and in relation to their function for the development and safety of the territory. The examples given are those which the Italian Army Engineer Corps used in the last two World Wars. The fact that there is a complex network of both fixed and mobile dovecotes on Italian soil is explained; capable of fulfilling the need of communication in wartime which is still usable when all the other systems of communications fail and also give a historical idea of the most ancient systems of organizations for the defense of the territory.
