| Summary: | The article identifies and analyzes the problems of sustainable development of enterprises of the engineering industry according to economic and environmental characteristics. It has been proven that, thanks to the management of the environmental component of an engineering enterprise, they receive an additional tool for the effective implementation of a sustainable development strategy. Implementing the concept of cleaner production, special attention should be paid to the greening of human resources (personnel) and the motivation of the creative work of employees. The result of actions for these areas should be a persistent conviction of each employee of the enterprise in the need for environmental protection measures in the area for which he is personally responsible. The possibility of finding the best ways to solve the ecological and economic problems of an enterprise will ultimately depend on the quality of changes in the current motivational mechanism for greening personnel, for which top management must be confident of the need and impact of such changes. On this occasion, special requirements must be placed on the management team. The ability of managers to integrate the environmental factor into innovation activity will to a large extent contribute to the fulfillment of greening objectives and, as a result, the achievement of specific final results of the enterprise’s activity in general. A model of economic and environmental management based on the concept of sustainable development of engineering enterprises has been proposed. The proposed model serves as a tool of direct influence on the introduction of environmentally-oriented technologies, provides an opportunity to increase production volumes and sales in foreign markets, as well as improve its quality, environmental safety and competitiveness in the market.
