Summary:This study is the result of an experiment with an inventory of part of the archives of the Santa Catarina School Museum. We begin with a reflection about the work of taking inventory, share some desires, limits and doubts, and briefly discuss museological information. We then offer a trajectory of the museum until the moment of realization of the inventory of its archives and the creation of a data base to store information and present the routes taken in this “adventure”. The principal motivation of this registration was the scarce support material found upon conducting the task and the desire to share the experience, while recognizing its limitations.
