This article aims to develop a study about the effects of media coverage on former President Dilma Rousseff’s deposition. The theoretical discussion is based on the cultural democratic approach, which defends that the increase of communication tools makes citizens politically more sophisticated and critical. It bases on Norris’ hypotheses (2011) that negative news coverage about political events influences citizens discredit about the government, political institutions and democracy, increasing the democratic deficit. In order to prove this hypothesis, this study looks at previous researches about how the media framed Rousseff’s impeachment as well as public opinion surveys about her government. The data analysis concluded that Brazilian media was biased, creating a conformation environment regarding the former president’s deposition.
