The World Tourism Organization reported in 2018 that 10% of the Gross Domestic Product and 1 in 10 jobs were related to this phenomenon. Alternative tourism has developed in parallel with globalization and the expansion of the tourism phenomenon as the qualitative shift made in recent years and is commonly presented as a solution to fight poverty and protect natural resources. But the commercialization, dissemination and promotion of these initiatives, among others, tend to be weak and result in initiatives not meeting the objectives set.
