Description
Summary:Introduction: Localized adiposity occurs due to changes in the fatty tissue distribution and to metabolic abnormalities. Objective: To assess the effects of cryotherapy with a camphor and menthol gel, used isolatedly and with a wet bandage, on localized adiposity in young women. Methods: Third three young women with localized adiposities were selected. Participants were randomly allocated into three groups (n = 11 per group): gel without wet bandage (GG), gel with a wet bandage (GGB= 11) and sham group (CG). Several procedures, such as anamnesis, physical exam, body composition evaluation and body self-image scale were applied. Results: The GG was the only group that showed a statistically significant decrease in the perimeter measured in the distal part of the thigh. Conclusions: The cryotherapy with a camphor and menthol gel used isolatedly was effective in decreasing distal thigh perimeter measure, however when it was applied with a wet bandage there was no change in localized adiposity in young women.
