Description
Summary:To facilitate the surfaces area prediction several mathematical models have been developed. The objective of this paper was toselect a mathematical model to predict contact area tire-soil to be used in estimating the risk of soil compaction. The prediction equations wereevaluated using data taken from catalogs as well as calculated. The obtained values were contrasted with contact areas coming from scientificliterature, later were statistically processed by means of the statistical package Statgraphics Plus 5.1. The results showed that the Inns andKilgour model can be efficiently used for both rigid and deformable surfaces when the study is carried out to evaluate the tire performance undermean work conditions. The model presented by OSullivan can also be used for both surfaces when the study is carried out to evaluate the tireperformance in conditions of high loads and inflated pressures.
