Summary:On 26 September 2014, 43 students from the Normal School “Rural Raúl Isidro Burgos” in Ayotzinapa were subjected to enforced disappearance in Iguala, state of Guerrero, México. The case had immediate local and international repercussions. Expressions of pain, indignation, but also of struggle, solidarity and empathy took place, through multiple days of action in the streets and social networks that followed each other in the months following the tragedy. In this article, we will analyze from the perspective of the studies of visual culture and the practice of artistic activism, three emerging devices of this juncture, that we consider conform since then, the most iconic and symbolic visual matrix to represent the normalistas: the number 43, the desks and the photographs of their faces.
