Catastrophes imply physical damage and grievous bodily harm that can strain the capacity of available hospitals to provide quality healthcare. Materials and Methods: The authors describe and analyze the performance of the orthopedic surgery department at a university hospital faced with a terrorist attack that injured 1167 and killed 192 people. Results: The injuries are characterized by severity and tissular damage spreading, including deep wounds, blast injuries, and burns. Conclusions: The review of analyses of previous catastrophes, described by our colleagues in different studies, can be very useful inorder to avoid mistakes in the future.
