In this essay, we observe the French constellation of the Ovidian story focusing on a treatment that a fundamental element of the universe of Ovidian fiction has shown: its oscillation between identifying and differentiating the two lovers. In the French medieval versions, it may be observed a marked trend to individualize the feminine character and to give him more relief; although this does not always happen in such a way. Actually, a similar tension is observed in the moral and allegorical interpretations.
