Summary:Heavy snow associated with low temperatures and wind intensification are phenomena typically manifested during winter, in southwestern Romania. The occurrence of such events in the last decade of the month of March, when spring should already be installed, generates severe weather episodes with negative impact on the socio-economic activity. One such episode manifested in the interval between 25th and 29th of March 2013. Seriousness of such an episode being mainly shown by the damage caused in the agricultural sector, as the plants were in the early stages of development, alerady. This paper presents a synoptic and climatological analysis of the given month (March 2013), including the mesoscale and local synoptic conditions, which favored these extreme weather phenomena in Oltenia.
