Description
Summary:The paper presents a collaborative student-based project involving a medley of choreographic and communication design. On the theme 'extended' – culture, media, performance – a digital dance work is presented as an experimental design. An interplay of local, historical cultural knowledge from contemporary Zimbabwe was combined with digital scenography. Theoretically, Activity Theory provides a frame for understanding the creative co-construction of mediating artifacts; Postcolonial theory provides a backdrop for the discussion of voice and representativity. A description of the performance work is given. Discussion centres on implications for postcolonial theory, mediation in digital environments and media education.
