The definition of urban space in Brazil is very simplistic, as it is restricted to material elements linked to infrastructure, as well as giving municipal administrations the power to delimit what will be urban space and rural space. In this sense, the study aims to verify the local rurality from the socio-spatial context. To do so, we used data and information surveys of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics on population, demographic density, economically active population, and data on regional agricultural production. It- was evidenced that of 10, of the 16 municipalities of the Varginha Microregion, they have a population of less than 20 thousand inhabitants with a strong connection to farming activities, and 14 have a population density lower than the urban OECD standards.https://seer.ufs.br/index.php/geonordeste/article/view/9711/pdfSmall CityMiddle TownRegional AnalysisRurality |
