| Summary: | Saraus play a central role in contemporary Brazilian literature. Originating in 2001, they are gatherings that take place in cafés of different neighbourhoods of peripheral São Paulo where people recite or read their own texts or the texts of others in front of a microphone. This article argues that we are currently witnessing a shift in the development of the saraus cycle. If they were originally defined by their physical locations in cafés and neighbourhoods, they have now acquired both a new virtual dimension and a new transnational aspect. |
